Starting from scratch

Close to 5 years ago I sought out a personal trainer to help me build the muscles needed to run a marathon. She was and still is awesome. I met so many amazing people and started doing things that I never thought possible.

I was getting strong.

Anyway, you know the story...lupus, loss of motivation, bad eating habits caused by depression, not taking responsibility. Fast forward to a few months ago. I went out on disability because there were just too many things going wrong with me, and I needed to stop working.

Somehow I developed lupus vasculitis of the colon and ended up in the hospital for 20 day. I just got out this past Friday. During my time at a very good hospital, I was unable to eat for a few weeks and unable to get out of bed. Weak as a kitten would be pretty strong. I lost almost 20lbs in my time there and got sent home with a walker and an appt for physical therapy.

Holy moly! Someone please tell me that muscle memory comes back. We were doing the most basic exercises today - leg lifts, balance work, squats, flexion - and only 10 reps of each. I think I fell asleep for a good 30 minutes after she left.

Tomorrow will be a big day, as I get to leave my apartment for the first time in a week, and I have to walk down 15 stairs. Other than that, I'm house-riddden.

I mentioned a while ago that I was going to redesign the bloggity blog to encompass both the lupus side of what I write about and the exercise portion.

It seems like a fitting time to do so, as both worlds are crashing into each other in a big way. I've got PT two times a week, with exercises to do daily, and then I'll progress to pool therapy.

Right now things are blah, but I'm not giving up. I'm 32 years old and I'm not content to chill with a walker.

I'm coming back. Just slowly.
