I have another confession inspired by Skinny Emmie's guest post.
I have no rhythm. Do you know what kinds of ribbing you get being Puerto Rican with no sense of rhythm?? When you grew up in the Bronx?? The Jennifer Lopez comparisons are endless and it's embarrassing.
Earlier this year for my day job, I planned a conference that had a Zumba class as part of the day's festivities. I was too embarrassed to shake my non-rhythmic arse on the dancefloor, but I REALLY REALLY wanted to try. It just looked like so much fun and the moves were...dare I say it...sexy. I wanted my body to move like that. I just needed to figure out how to incorporate learning how to zumba with my fear of public exposure.
Enter Playstation's Zumba Fitness.
My husband is a gamer and was already into the EA Interactive workouts, so he purchased Zumba Fitness on a whim, and probably with the hopes that I'd shimmy around the house. It's a fairly simple concept that requires a few things: a Playstation, the Playstation Eye, the game, and one of those nifty wand thingies in a belt holder. The Eye and the Wand track your movements, and the goal is to follow the moves as closely as possible.
The short version is I still have no rhythm, but it was an amazing workout. Four minutes into the warm up routine and I was breaking a sweat and moving muscles I didn't know I had in ways I didn't think I had. And it felt good. Once I'm up and running (figuratively speaking) again, I want to incorporate Zumba at least once a week into my routine.
Do you Zumba?
