My weight loss journey was started not just for the actual purpose of losing weight, but to improve my health, self-confidence, self-esteem and my budget :). The majority of the weight loss has come through changing the way I eat completely. I try to eat clean, and follow an 80/20 paleo diet. For those who are going to ask, paleo works for me because it really helps control my diabetes better than medication and the American Diabetes Association diet combined. Since I've gone paleo, my glucose readings are consistently in the lower end of normal range, which is a huge change from when I was diagnosed. I've been able to maintain this despite having to take additional steroids over the last several months due to lupus flares.
My go-to for paleo recipes include
PaleOmg,
TheGraciousPantry,
NomNomPaleo,
EatingBirdFood, and
MarksDailyApple. I also am a big fan of the
Eat Clean Diet Cookbook and the
Primal BluePrint Cookbook.
For exercise, my go to is yoga. I'm a member of
YogaWorks in Larchmont Village, CA and absolutely love it there. It is a place that feels like home, where you can learn, grow, make friends and learn more about yourself all in one session. I love the staff there, and it just overall rocks. I've also been doing a 30-day
Curvy Yoga course, which has been AMAZING at helping me build a more solid home practice for the days I don't have time or am physically unable to get to the studio.
Of course my fitness journey wouldn't be possible without the three core people who have kept me going - my BFFs Cecilia and Jessica and my husband Omar. They have been encouraging me in so many ways and have given me the much needed kick in the ass when needed.
Even thought I do a Wednesday weigh-in, I wanted to show you what I've been doing for the last several months. I really started taking this health journey seriously in February or March. Here's a photo blast from then until now.
